Why choose Storykind Psychology?

People feel better with the help of others.

This simple truth helps guide my practice. Positive change happens when people feel heard, seen and belived. I focus on developing a therapeutic relationship which supports people to tap into their strengths, cope with difficulties and work towards their goals for the future.  I use research to guide treatment, monitor outcomes and seek feedback to ensure therapy is client-driven.

The stories we tell about ourselves matter.

As humans we are made up of multiple stories, and sometimes we only listen to one unhelpful story which saps our vitality and strength.  Our stories can be painful, yet stories have the power to heal.

About me...

I’m Georgie and I love being a psychologist. Taking a curious and kind approach, I work collaboratively with children and adults to step through difficult times together, and come out stronger for the experience.

As a mother of three small children, I can relate to many of the challenges parents face. I am always professional yet also aim to be approachable and down to earth in my interactions. I want people to feel comfortable and free to be themselves without fear of judgement.

My professional background...

With over 20 years experience working with schools as a psychologist,
consultant and trainer, I am confident in the work I do. Since completing the Doctor of Educational Psychology at the University of Melbourne, I have enjoyed the best of both worlds when in comes to research and practice.

I currently divide my time between working as a lecturer, private practice, mental health advisor roles and other freelance projects that take my interest. I have been invited to appear on television news programs such as ABC-24 to discuss student wellbeing and my research. I continue to publish scientific journal articles and chapters on the topic of trauma, trauma-informed practice, wellbeing and social and emotional learning.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a Medicare or Health insurance rebate for sessions?

If you feel you would benefit from psychological support, we recommend visiting your GP to request a Mental Health Care Plan. If you are eligible, this plan provides Medicare rebates for up to 10 psychology sessions per calendar year.

Once these sessions are used, appointments can continue on a private basis, with additional rebates potentially available through your private health insurer—please check directly with your provider.

Is counselling confidential and private?

Yes, the Psychology Board of Australia’s Code of Ethics states that all counselling sessions are confidential and private. The information you share during these sessions is not shared with anyone else.  The only exception to this is when you or someone you know is at risk of immediate harm or injury, and/or your file is subpoenaed to a court of law.

What can I expect on the first session?

Counselling is just having a chat. I will be lead by you and what you feel comfortable with sharing. I will ask questions about what your strengths and passions are. As you feel more comfortable with me, I will ask you about what your hopes for therapy are.

As a parent of a child or young person, can I talk to you?

Definitely, but we do need to be mindful of a few things. The young person's privacy and confidentiality is paramount to effective therapy. Medicare rebates only cover the Individual who has the Mental Health Care Plan, so it is advisable for parents to seek out whether they are eligible for their own Plan if they require further support. I can schedule and charge for shorter telehealth or phone sessions to discuss particular concerns.
